How it works
How to use the JSON to Excel tool
- 1
Upload a JSON file
An array of objects, or an object containing arrays.
- 2
Convert
Keys become columns; nested objects are flattened.
- 3
Download
Open the XLSX in Excel or Google Sheets.
Handles real-world JSON
Objects with different keys are merged into one set of columns. Nested objects become dotted columns like address.city, and arrays of values are joined. An object of arrays produces one sheet per array.
Limitations
We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:
- Very deeply nested arrays of objects are flattened into indexed columns, which can get wide.
- Up to 50 MB.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to FreeToolsDaily or anyone else.
Can I paste JSON instead of uploading?
Save it as a .json file first, or use JSON to CSV, which accepts pasted text.
