How it works

How to use the Age Calculator tool

  1. 1

    Enter a date of birth

Use the date picker or type the date.

  2. 2

Choose the date to measure to

It's today by default. Change it to find an age on a past or future date.

  3. 3

    See the result

Exact age, total months, weeks, days and hours, plus days until the next birthday.

How exact age is calculated

The calculator counts whole months from your birth date, handling months of different lengths (Jan 31 plus one month is the end of February), and then counts the remaining days. Leap years are fully accounted for. If you were born on 29 February, your birthday is observed on 28 February in non-leap years.

Common uses

Checking age eligibility for exams, jobs, pensions and government schemes, which often specify an age on a particular cut-off date. Set “Age on” to that date for an exact answer.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • Time of birth and time zones aren't considered; the calculation is by calendar date.
  • Total hours is approximate (days × 24).
