How it works

How to use the PNG to WebP tool

  1. 1

    Add PNG images

Drop one or many files onto the upload area, or click to browse your device.

  2. 2

    Adjust if needed

Set the WebP quality. The default is a great balance of size and sharpness.

  3. 3

    Download

Download each WebP individually, or all of them together as a ZIP file.

Transparency is preserved

Unlike JPG, WebP supports an alpha channel, so logos, icons and cut-out product photos keep their transparent backgrounds. At the same time, WebP files are frequently 50–80% smaller than the equivalent PNG, which makes them a great fit for websites and apps.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • Output is lossy WebP; for pixel-perfect archiving keep the original PNG.
  • Requires a browser that can encode WebP (Chrome, Edge, Firefox).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion uses your browser's built-in image engine, so your pictures never leave your device.

Will my transparent PNG stay transparent?

Yes. WebP keeps transparent and semi-transparent pixels.

Can WebP be used in WordPress and Shopify?

Yes. Both platforms support WebP uploads, as do all modern browsers.

What quality should I choose for graphics?

Use 85–95% for logos and illustrations with crisp edges; lower values are fine for photos.
