How it works

How to use the Excel to CSV tool

  1. 1

    Upload a workbook

Choose an XLSX, XLS or ODS file and preview its sheets.

  2. 2

    Pick sheets and separator

Export the current sheet or every sheet, with comma, semicolon or tab separators.

  3. 3

    Download

One CSV, or one CSV per sheet bundled in a ZIP.

CSV that imports cleanly

Values are quoted only when needed (when they contain the separator, quotes or line breaks), following RFC 4180, which every serious import tool understands. Cells are exported as displayed in Excel, so dates and formatted numbers look the way you expect.

The optional UTF-8 marker (BOM) tells Excel to read accented and non-Latin characters correctly when you reopen the CSV. Turn it off for systems that don't expect it.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • CSV stores values only, so formulas, formatting, charts and multiple sheets in one file aren't possible in the format itself.
  • Merged cells export their value in the first cell only.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is my spreadsheet uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and converted inside your browser, and its contents never leave your device. That matters for financial and customer data.

How do I export all sheets?

Turn on “Export every sheet”. You'll get one CSV per sheet, downloadable individually or as a ZIP.

Should I use comma or semicolon?

Comma is the international standard. Use semicolon if your CSV will be opened in Excel set to a European locale that uses commas as decimal separators.
