Why WebP?

WebP was designed for the web. At equal visual quality, WebP photos are typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG, so pages load faster, which helps your visitors and your Core Web Vitals scores. Every modern browser supports displaying WebP.

Recommended quality

For photographs, a WebP quality of 75–85% matches a high-quality JPG. Use 90% or more for product images where fine detail matters.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • Creating WebP requires Chrome, Edge, Firefox or another browser with a WebP encoder; some older Safari versions can only display WebP.
  • Some older desktop software and email clients can't open WebP files.
