CSV to Excel converter
Turn raw CSV data into a proper Excel workbook with real numbers and sensible column widths.
How it works
How to use the CSV to Excel tool
- 1
Upload a CSV file
CSV, TSV and plain-text files work. The separator (comma, semicolon or tab) is detected automatically.
- 2
Check the preview
Make sure columns line up correctly. If not, choose the separator manually.
- 3
Download XLSX
Get an .xlsx workbook that opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice.
Avoid Excel's CSV pitfalls
Opening a CSV directly in Excel can mangle data: ZIP codes lose their leading zeros, long ID numbers turn into scientific notation, and accented characters become gibberish. FreeToolsDaily converts numbers you'll want to calculate with, keeps codes like 02134 or long account numbers as text, and reads files as UTF-8 so international characters survive.
Quoted values and line breaks
Cells wrapped in quotes, including ones that contain commas or line breaks, are parsed according to the CSV standard (RFC 4180), so addresses and notes stay in one cell.
Limitations
We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:
- Each CSV becomes one sheet; combining several CSVs into one workbook isn't supported yet.
- Dates are kept as text exactly as written, so their format doesn't change unexpectedly.
