How it works

How to use the Word to PDF tool

  1. 1

    Upload a DOCX file

Pick a Word document saved in the .docx format (Word 2007 or newer).

  2. 2

    Choose paper and margins

Select A4 or US Letter, and narrow, normal or wide margins.

  3. 3

    Download your PDF

The PDF is created on your device, with real, selectable and searchable text.

What's converted

FreeToolsDaily reads the structure of your document (headings, paragraphs, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, links, bold, italic and underline, plus embedded PNG and JPG pictures) and lays it out as a clean, professional PDF. Text remains real text, so the PDF is searchable and accessible.

When to expect differences

Word's own page layout engine isn't available in a browser, so the PDF uses FreeToolsDaily's typesetting. Text documents such as letters, essays, CVs and reports convert well. Documents that rely on precise positioning, like text boxes, multi-column newsletters, headers and footers, or drawings, will look different. For those, “Save as PDF” in Word itself gives an exact copy.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • Legacy .doc files (Word 97–2003) aren't supported; open them in Word and save as .docx first.
  • Headers, footers, text boxes, columns, page numbers, footnotes and drawing shapes aren't reproduced.
  • The built-in PDF font covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. Scripts such as Hindi, Arabic, Chinese or Japanese aren't supported yet, and you'll be warned if your document uses them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is my Word document uploaded?

No. The document is read and converted entirely inside your browser and is never sent to a server.

Can I convert .doc files?

Not currently. Open the file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, save it as .docx, and convert that.

Will the fonts match my document?

The PDF uses a clean sans-serif font (Roboto) so it looks consistent everywhere. Custom fonts from your document aren't embedded.

Is the text in the PDF selectable?

Yes. It's real text, not an image, so it can be selected, searched and read by screen readers.
