How it works

How to use the JPG to PNG tool

  1. 1

    Add JPG images

Drop one or many files onto the upload area, or click to browse your device.

  2. 2

    Adjust if needed

PNG is lossless, so there's nothing to tune. Your image is converted pixel-for-pixel.

  3. 3

    Download

Download each PNG individually, or all of them together as a ZIP file.

When PNG is the better choice

PNG never loses quality when it's saved again, so it's the safer format for images you'll keep editing, such as screenshots you'll annotate or graphics you'll place in designs. Some upload forms and design tools also require PNG.

Converting a JPG to PNG doesn't restore detail that JPEG compression already removed; it simply stops any further loss from now on.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • PNG files are usually larger than the original JPG because PNG compression is lossless.
  • Converting doesn't add transparency. The background stays as it was in the photo.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion uses your browser's built-in image engine, so your pictures never leave your device.

Why is my PNG larger than the JPG?

JPG throws away detail to stay small; PNG keeps every pixel exactly. For photos that makes PNG files 3–10× larger. That's expected.

Does JPG to PNG make the background transparent?

No. A conversion keeps the image as it is. Removing a background requires a background remover, which is planned for FreeToolsDaily.

Can I convert many JPGs at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 images and download all the PNGs together as a ZIP.
