What Base64 is for

Base64 represents binary data using 64 safe text characters, so it can travel through systems that only handle text — JSON, HTML, email and URLs. It’s an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it.

Limitations

We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:

  • Files up to 10 MB (Base64 adds about 33% to the size).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or logged.

Is Base64 secure?

No — it’s easily reversed. Use encryption (like Protect PDF) for secrets.

What is URL-safe Base64?

A variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /, so it can appear in URLs and filenames.
