Why iPhones use HEIC
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) stores photos at about half the size of JPG with similar quality. But many websites, older Windows PCs and apps can’t open it. Converting to JPG makes your photos universally compatible.
Limitations
We’d rather be upfront about what this tool can’t do yet:
- Decoding HEIC in a browser takes a few seconds per photo.
- Depth and Live Photo motion data aren’t kept.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions

No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to FreeToolsDaily or anyone else.
How do I stop my iPhone saving HEIC?
Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG.
Is location data kept?
No — EXIF metadata, including GPS location, is removed during conversion.
